Sure, connecting cables from your laptop to your television is an option these days with all the connections that the HDTV’s offer but who wants to be connected with a cable when everything is going wireless. I remember almost 10 years ago purchasing an external device that would display my computer on the television and all I remember is that it looked awful to say the least and since they were only standard definition tube televisions — making out text was almost impossible.
Computers, monitors and electronics have come a very long way and if you connect your computer to your HDTV it’s almost like having a large monitor. In many cases you don’t want to run messy cables and Netgear has the perfect solution. The Netgear Push 2 TV 1000 plugs in via usb and wirelessly sends an HD video and audio signal to the receiver connect via HDMI on your television — and make note that some of the other models of the Push 2 TV also work with and require Intel’s Wireless Display whereas this unit does not require IWD to work.
The setup is very straight-forward and simple as with many of the Netgear products. Simply put, you don’t need and advanced electrical engineering degree to hook this unit up. Following the simple instructions just install the included software, then when prompted plugin the receiver to the television and then plugin the transmitter to the computer. Everything detects automatically and you also have a few transmission frequency options in case you encounter interference. As a side note, I had an issue at first getting the device to function on my laptop, as it turned out it was a software conflict from an add-on spyware and pc cleaning program. After disabling the software everything worked fine — so it was not the unit. If you encounter an issue like this I recommend checking for software conflicts.
Once my conflict was resolved, the device started up and connected almost instantly. Just the desktop looked excellent. I started browsing some website and they looked great too — played some YouTube videos and the streams were perfect. I also played a few pc games just to test and they performed flawlessly too. This unit will also let you watch your DVD’s through your PC but due to copyright issues it will not stream a Blu-ray disc — don’t really understand that copyright issue but it seems to apply to other devices like this too.
The NetGear Push 2 TV is a great solution for any home or office to wirelessly take your computer screen and get it onto a TV or projector with ease and HD clarity. Keep in mind that there are some minimum requirements that your computer will need to meet for this device so review that information first.
After testing the Push 2 TV, I would highly recommend this device to friends and I easily give it one Damn Good Review! Watch the quick overview and demo video below.
