Nordic Flash – Camera Floats
Easy to use
Perhaps a deflatable version
I love every minute of snorkeling when I travel…especially to Bermuda and the Caribbean. You may have seen one of my other reviews on the Nikon underwater camera which I have used since that review to capture hd underwater photos and videos. While snorkeling some areas the depth to the floor had to be about 25 feet deep and while I had a great time shooting with the camera I had the ultimate fear of dropping the camera while trying to swim and then waiving bon voyage to it since there was no chance I was diving that deep. So at the time my only solution was to tie my bathing suit drawstrings to the wrist strap as a back up… which was pretty funny. After my return home, I looked into flotation straps for the camera which would lessen my fears if the camera dropped it would float. The Nordic Flash camera float looked like it would do the trick.
What’s in the box:
Not much to find in the package beside the NordicFlash floater wristbands
Setting up the nordic flash is as simple as just attaching it to the camera just like a regular wrist strap. Once completed you slide your hand through the opening and it fits comfortably around your wrist.
Usage & Performance
I had the two pack Nordic Flash and tested with my Nikon underwater camera and the floats are rated to float waterproof cameras up to 7 ounces/200grams and made of made of soft foam-filled neoprene. Now, I did not test in the ocean but tested in a hot tub and pool instead just to see how it floats. My guess it may float a little better due to salt water but figured there would be not much of a difference. As it did turn out my camera actual was a little buoyant on it’s own do to being sealed and waterproof but still too scary to just trust that.
Having the feeling of security and not worrying if I drop my camera it will just sink to the bottom of the ocean like a rock is great. I would like to see a bit longer connector to the camera and perhaps a deflatable version of the device offered too.. although it is very compact and I can easy squeeze it into any bag I would be traveling with. The Nordic Flash is very straight forward but gets the job done and is at a price point, around $20 for a two pack shipped through Amazon. Surely this price outweighs the thought of having to buy a new camera or loosing photos altogether.
