Adobe Premiere Elements 12
Easy to use and learn
Tons of features & effects
Multiple playback/video modes
Installing Adobe Premiere 12 was very straight forward and easy from the download — but keep in mind that the download is pretty big..so if your connection is slow you may want to purchase the boxed version. Installation was a breeze and once installed I did notice a bit of a performance increase from the previous version of Adobe Premiere Elements.
Interface Overview & Feature Set
The interface looks almost identical to that of elements 11 however Adobe has added some additional new features that I have highlighted in the video overview below that may give some a reason to make the upgrade including two more advanced features like motion tracking and video adjustment layers which I talk about below. To test the software I tried the easy option but find it too frustrating since I come from a production background and just want more control — but it would be very easy for anyone starting out to use and then to have the options to switch to advanced which is great! I did have my wife try the easy editing option which she felt it was just that pretty straight forward and easy to use especially but the guided tour version was an even better way for her to start once I showed her. When the time comes using the advanced feature the program looks and feels much like a professional NLE (Non-Linear Editing) System.
As with the previous versions Adobe Elements 12 comes with Adobe Media Organizer built-in which will allow you to easily organizer, categorize and tag all of our videos to help easily find what you are looking for. Adobe now offers the “Revel” cloud service allowing you to upload, view and share your works on almost any device…which is pretty neat feature for the tech savvy and on-the-go users.
Adobe has done a great job of constantly adding new features to make the editor more powerful. Some of the new features include Automatic Smart Tone for enhancing your videos, more film looks to give that cinematic look and feel to your videos, motion tracking options, and adjustment layers which will allow you to apply a variety of effects to multiple clips instead of having to place the effect on each clip — let’s not forget the added music and scores too making the Adobe Premiere Elements 12 package really one-whole complete video production suite especially if you add the power of a graphic and photo editing software like Photoshop Elements.
I have been a long-time fan of the Premiere product line and with all the enhancements and power that is offered in Adobe Premiere Elements 12 it really makes for a great editing system that almost anyone can afford. It is perfect for students and indie film-makers on a tight budget. Although, I’m not 100% sure that I would recommend an upgrade just yet if you are running version 11 unless some of the new features really stand out and offer something you have been looking for. Otherwise ,I think that the software is very easy to use and learn especially with the three different modes — but also a great tool for anyone looking to edit professional looking videos for output to a variety of devices and platforms.
